Hey Neighbors -
Happy Saturday! I finally tweaked Ward 6’s mobile and got rid of the double-vision weirdness when you subscribe or upgrade. The webpage is also cleaner, with fewer posts on the main page.
I decided on Thursday that I needed a weekend off, and this seemed like a good one to take. Enjoy your holiday, be safe and have fun.
Before I check out for a few days–what the heck Mother Nature?

@emilypostnews, July 3rd storm
Mother Nature could end up upstaging our semiquincentennial/bisesquincentennial celebration, which, by the way, is so insanely jam-packed, I’d like to take a minute to review.
The World Cup… (games resume in NJ tomorrow)
…the largest-ever global parade of tall ships AND not-so-tall ones and Navy ships, too (check out IG for incredible stories about these ships!)
…a fireworks extravaganza

My view in 2019 from Pier 6 (no tickets required!)
…Blue Angels along with hundreds of other aircraft
Taylor + Kelce got hitched + 1K guests (do I include this?)
…and then yesterday, reports of multiple shark sightings at nearby beaches with one possible injured swimmer.
Sweltering heat, followed by a fierce storm last night that looked more like a hurricane, especially in Red Hook, where trees are down, blocking entire streets (@Col. St Waterfront) and the power was off overnight in some areas.

@Columbiastreetwaterfront in Red Hook, one of many trees down & @dlumbo people scrambling at the beach
And, finally, the biggest news of all in our corner of BK, according to my IG (before last night)? The ship Pilot, formerly a floating oyster bar at Pier 6, bid adieu and sank, unplanned, at a Red Hook maintenance facility.

Pilot before at Pier 6 (Julie) and after at Red Hook’s vessel maintenance facility (@bowerybird)
That’s all I got! Again, be safe and enjoy! Good luck Mr. Mayor. You got this.
Until next week…
Much to share after covering a few loonngg, and at times, boring meetings where I learned important information that impacts everyone in our corner of Brooklyn. Not to be missed!
Then the fun stuff: two local novelists debut their new books, a big announcement from the Dep. of Sanitation, and a deep dive I’ve been working on about a local restaurant (may or may not be ready). I’ll talk to Sacha Weiss, the founder of the Red Hook FC about the end of the season and whatever else I can drum up.
Thanks for reading! JLH
